Larisa and Matt are the best couple to hike in the woods with. We spent the majority of the time talking about video games! Of course that has nothing to do with the woods, but who doesn't love video games. After all Matt does work for Microsoft, and he had just gotten back from a Star Wars board game competition. Naturally we bonded immediately. Ooo we even managed to grab some crazy engagement photos around Frank Falls in the Snoqualmie area.
The title says it all 2016 was an incredible year! Before I get into what happened and how ridiculously great it was, I want to thank all of my amazing clients for trusting me to capture their wedding!
To start January 11th 2016 was the day that Julia and I moved to Seattle all the way from Chicago. Well technically Julia's dad, Jim, and I drove across the country for an entire week of sightseeing. Julia still had to wrap up one final week of work back in Chicago, so she flew in Friday night. Jim and I managed to drop off the U Haul at the new apartment, grab a pizza and we went out to the airport to pick her up. The plan worked out perfectly (except for that deer we hit in South Dakota)!
All our adventures began as soon as we moved out to Seattle! This place is incredible, and we ducked out for a hike every chance we got. I've honestly lost count, we've done so many this year.
Then wedding season kicked in and the traveling started. I've been to 2 countries, and 13 different states all to photograph people in the places they love. That means 15,000 miles have been put on my car and I've hit just under 30,000 on my frequent flyer card.
Here are a few of my favorite shots from the year!
Alahm and Khalid, told me how much they loved trips out to the mountains and exploring the gorgeous scenery. Of course I took that to mean that a 4 hour drive each way from Seattle, to meet up in North Cascades National Park was perfectly acceptable for the engagement session over the summer. I'd say it paid off! They look absolutely gorgeous surrounded by the incredible mountains and beautiful scenery for their adventure. I couldn't be more excited the share all of their photos!
How can you say no when you get a call to travel to San Francisco to shoot one crazy adventure filled engagement session! Well after talking over locations with Emily and Jon, we decided to go all out! We started with a sunrise shoot right at Sutro Baths, with a walk over to Lands End. We then met back up to head over to Marshall's Beach for sunset. This was not only one of my favorite engagement sessions ever, it was also the most gorgeous sunsets I've ever had for a photoshoot!
That's not all, check out the bottom of the post for a surprise ending!
After the engagement session I was also able to go out to Golden Gate National Recreation Area to grab some landscapes.
There I was on the side of the road taking cityscapes of downtown San Francisco. A couple had spotted my camera equipment and they end up starting a conversation. It turns out they had just got married at city hall earlier that day! They asked if I could take a photo of the two of them, and we ended up with this beautiful portrait of them silhouetted against the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Fran Skyline!
