Not that I don't love shooting weddings, but WOW it feels good to start a good old fashion doc project. This is the first of a larger series that will be featuring some of the companies in Chicago that are still making goods by hand. These are a few snapshots from my first day over at Specimen Products. They've been hand making guitars, little horn speakers, and amplifiers since 1984. Their horn speakers have been used by artists like Andrew Bird, The White Strips, and a ton of others. I strongly encourage everyone to check out their stuff! Beyond the people of Specimen and how they have so graciously allowed me to quietly stalk them, this project is about the process and the people behind the company. These photographs are the first of many that I will be posting in the next few months. I'm hoping to gain access to a number of other locations around the city, and I'll be sure to keep everyone updated!
Of course I'm also looking for ideas on other businesses to be a part of this project. If you know of a specific business, or even an idea for a product made here in Chicago be sure to leave a comment or email me directly. I'm always up for suggestions!
