It's always so hard to figure out where to begin. Everytime I sit down to write a blog post the trip is always a blur. I start thinking about everything we did all at once. There's definitely one thing that comes to mind when I think of our trip to Vermont to stay at the Amee Lodge, it's perfect! I've stayed at B & Bs all over the country, for weddings and of course just because. The Amee Lodge has to be the best yet! Actually the more I think about it, it is actually the best Bed and Breakfast I've stayed in. It has just the right mix of log cabin, small town, hiking trails, and one outrageously comfortable bed. Plus each room has pellet fireplace. In the middle of winter there's nothing better than sitting by your little fireplace and relaxing. Julia and I didn't do too much sitting around we hit a big snowstorm and of course an even bigger traffic jam leaving Chicago, and it put us about half a day behind our already tight schedule. Or maybe it was our side trip to Niagara Falls that put us behind... Either way check out the photos!
Being that neither of us had ever been to Niagara Falls, we figured we had to make a pit stop. I'm so glad that we did! Even though the spray from the falls was absolutely freezing, it made that place that much more beautiful! Better yet, since it was so cold, and so windy, there was basically no one else even around.
We did it! We had finally arrived at Amee Lodge and it was even better than I expected. Located in the small town of Pittsfield with only about 400 or so people it has everything you'd expect from small town charm, and tons of outdoors adventures. I wish we had more time to check everything out! Especially The Death Race. I don't want to go into too much detail about the actual race, because I am 100% working on a plan to come back out and photograph it, but damn these guys are crazy! To dramatically simplify it, they are kept awake through multiple days of grueling labor and challenges. Head over to Peak.com to learn more.
Insane and intense racers aren't the only people fit to enjoy the trails, mountain biking, skiing, snowmobiling, and 4 wheeling in the area. Many of the trails are accessible for any skill level.
This is the view right from the lodge, the whole area is absolutely gorgeous.
The room was much more put together when we got there, but I was too tired from the long long drive to take pictures as soon as we walked in the door.
First thing in the morning we set out on the trails. Marc, one of the employees and someone crazy enough to be in The Death Race was kind enough to take us one mile down the road to show us some trailheads at River Side Farm.
Later in the day Peter was kind enough to give us an extensive tour of the properties. I was just blown away by how much is there. They have thought of everything!
I sincerely want to say thank you to everyone over at Riverside Farm, and Amee Lodge for the incredible weekend. Just thinking back to all the trails, and delicious food makes me want to hop back in my car just to say hi!!
